Effective date: September 21, 2026
Sacred Hill Publishing (“we,” “us” or “our”) respects your privacy. This policy explains what personal information we collect when you visit https://sacredhillpublishing.com (the “site”) or write to us, how we use it, who helps us handle it, and the choices you have.
We have tried to keep it plain. If anything is unclear, please ask.
Who we are
Sacred Hill Publishing is a nonprofit religious publisher. We are an Ohio nonprofit corporation based in Toledo, Ohio, USA, and we are recognized by the IRS as tax-exempt under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.
We are responsible for the personal information described in this policy. (Some data protection laws call this being the “controller.”) You can reach us at:
- Email: sacredhillpublishing@gmail.com
- Contact form: sacredhillpublishing.com/contact/
Information we collect
Information you give us
Contact form. When you send a message, we collect your name, email address, the topic you choose, the book you select (if any) and your message, along with anything you decide to include, such as a shipping address for an order. Each message is saved in our website’s database and emailed to us.
Newsletter. When you sign up, we collect your email address, the page where you signed up, and the date and time of your signup, which is our record of your consent. If you sign up by checking the box on the contact form, we also keep your name. Each signup is saved in our website’s database and emailed to us.
Orders and donations. For now, ordering and giving happen through our contact form and by email. This correspondence may include your name, email address, mailing address, phone number (if you give it), the books and quantities you order, amounts paid or given, and the quotes, receipts and acknowledgments we send you. We keep records of payments and gifts as our accounts require.
Please do not send card numbers, bank account numbers or other sensitive financial details by email or through our forms. We will explain how to pay when we send your quote.
If you ask us to send books to someone else, you will give us that person’s name and address. Please share them only if the person is comfortable with it.
Information collected automatically
Server logs. Like most websites, our site is hosted on servers that keep standard logs. These record details such as your IP address, browser and device type, the pages you request, the date and time, and the page that referred you.
Security logs. We use Wordfence, a security plugin and firewall, to protect the site from attacks and spam. Wordfence examines incoming traffic and may log IP addresses and related details for visits, login attempts and blocked requests.
Spam protection on our forms. Our forms use a hidden field, a timing check and a short-term limit on repeated submissions. To apply the limit, the site briefly stores a scrambled (hashed) version of your IP address.
Analytics and advertising (once enabled). We plan to use Google Analytics to understand how visitors use the site, and Google Ads conversion tracking to learn whether our ads lead to actions on the site, such as sending a message or signing up for the newsletter. These tools use cookies and similar technologies to collect information such as the pages you view, how long you stay, your browser and device type, how you reached the site (for example, by clicking an ad) and your approximate location, which Google works out from your IP address. The reports we receive do not identify you by name.
Cookies
Cookies are small text files that a website stores in your browser. Our site uses:
- Functional cookies from WordPress. WordPress, the software that runs our site, sets cookies it needs to work, mainly for people who log in to manage the site.
- Security cookies from Wordfence. Wordfence may set cookies that help it tell real visitors from automated attacks and protect logins.
- Caching cookies from LiteSpeed Cache. LiteSpeed Cache stores ready-made copies of our pages so they load quickly. It may set a technical cookie so that you see the right version of a page.
- Analytics and advertising cookies from Google (once enabled). Google Analytics and Google Ads set cookies to measure visits and the results of our ads.
The first three kinds are needed for the site to work securely and reliably. Where the law requires it, including for visitors in the European Union and the United Kingdom, we will ask for your consent before setting analytics or advertising cookies.
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. If you block functional or security cookies, parts of the site may not work as expected. You can also stop Google Analytics from collecting information about your visits by installing Google’s opt-out browser add-on: https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.
Some browsers send “Do Not Track” signals. Because there is no common standard for how websites should respond to them, our site does not currently respond to these signals.
How we use information
We use personal information to:
- Answer your messages and questions
- Prepare quotes, fill and ship orders, and resolve any problems with an order
- Receive and acknowledge donations, and keep the financial records a nonprofit must keep
- Send our newsletter to people who have asked for it
- Keep the site secure, block spam and attacks, and fix technical problems
- Understand how the site is used so we can improve it (once Google Analytics is enabled)
- Measure whether our ads lead to visits and inquiries (once Google Ads conversion tracking is enabled)
- Comply with the law and protect our rights and the rights of others
We do not use your information to make automated decisions that have legal or similarly significant effects on you.
Legal bases for people in the EU and UK
If you are in the European Union or the United Kingdom, data protection law requires us to have a legal basis for using your personal information. We rely on:
- Consent, for sending the newsletter and for analytics and advertising cookies where consent is required. You can withdraw your consent at any time.
- Contract, to prepare a quote you ask for and to fill and ship an order you place.
- Legitimate interests, to answer your messages, keep the site secure, prevent spam and fraud, keep proper records and improve the site. We rely on this basis only when our interests are not outweighed by your rights and interests.
- Legal obligation, to keep the financial and donation records the law requires.
We never sell or rent your personal information
We do not sell, rent or trade personal information, and we do not share it with other organizations for their own marketing. We share it only with the service providers and in the situations described below.
Service providers who help us
We use a small number of providers to run the site and handle our correspondence. They receive only the information they need to do their work for us.
- Hostinger hosts our website, including the database where contact form messages and newsletter signups are stored, and keeps server logs.
- Our email provider, Google (Gmail), carries and stores the email we send and receive, including the copies of form submissions that our website emails to us.
- Wordfence, made by Defiant, Inc., protects the site. Information about suspicious or blocked traffic, such as IP addresses, may be shared with Defiant to protect our site and other websites from attacks.
- Google Analytics and Google Ads (once enabled) collect information through cookies as described above. Google uses this information under its own privacy policy: https://policies.google.com/privacy. You can opt out of Google Analytics at https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.
- Payment and shipping. When you pay for an order, the bank or payment service you use processes the payment under its own terms. When we ship, the carrier receives your name and delivery address.
We may also share information with professional advisers, such as accountants, when needed, and with authorities when the law requires it or when it is necessary to protect the rights, property or safety of Sacred Hill Publishing, our readers or others.
How long we keep information
We keep personal information only as long as we need it for the purposes described in this policy.
- Messages and correspondence: as long as we need them to answer you and handle any follow-up. After that, we delete them.
- Order, payment and donation records: as long as tax, accounting and other legal requirements call for.
- Newsletter list: until you unsubscribe. After that, we may keep a note of your email address and your request so that we don’t email you again by mistake.
- Server and security logs: for a limited time, after which our hosting and security tools delete or overwrite them on a rolling basis.
- Analytics data (once enabled): for a limited period that we set in Google Analytics.
How we protect information
We take reasonable steps to protect personal information. The site uses an encrypted (HTTPS) connection, Wordfence guards it against attacks, and access to our website records and email is limited to the people who handle correspondence, orders and gifts for Sacred Hill Publishing.
No website or email system is perfectly secure, so please don’t send us sensitive information we haven’t asked for.
Children’s privacy
Our site is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child under 13 has sent us personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
Your rights and choices
Wherever you live, you can ask us to:
- Tell you what personal information we hold about you and give you a copy (access)
- Correct information that is wrong or incomplete (correction)
- Delete your information (deletion), unless we must keep it for legal reasons, such as donation records
- Stop sending you the newsletter (see “How to unsubscribe” below)
People in the EU and UK
You also have the right to object to our use of your information, to ask us to restrict it, to receive your information in a portable format, and to withdraw your consent at any time. You have the right to complain to your local data protection authority. In the United Kingdom, that is the Information Commissioner’s Office.
People in California and other US states
Residents of California and several other US states have privacy rights under state law. These include the right to know what personal information is collected about them and how it is used; to access, correct and delete it; to opt out of its sale or its use for targeted advertising; and not to be treated differently for using these rights. Some of these laws do not apply to small nonprofit organizations, but we will honor these requests from anyone.
We do not sell personal information. If we turn on Google Ads conversion tracking, some state laws may treat the information Google collects through its advertising cookies as “sharing” for advertising purposes. You can opt out by blocking third-party cookies in your browser settings or, where we offer cookie choices on the site, by declining advertising cookies.
We do not share personal information with other companies for their own direct marketing purposes, as described in California’s “Shine the Light” law.
How to make a request
Email us at sacredhillpublishing@gmail.com or use our contact form. To protect your information, we may need to confirm your identity, for example by replying to the email address we have on file. You may also ask an authorized agent to make a request for you, with proof of their authority.
We will respond within the time required by the law that applies to you. If we cannot fulfill a request, we will explain why, and you may ask us to reconsider by replying to our response. We will not treat you differently for exercising your rights.
International visitors and transfers
Sacred Hill Publishing is based in the United States. Information you send us will be processed in the United States and in other countries where our service providers operate, which may have data protection laws different from those where you live.
When we transfer personal information from the European Union or the United Kingdom, we rely on the safeguards our providers offer, such as standard contractual clauses approved for this purpose.
How to unsubscribe
To stop receiving the newsletter, reply to any newsletter and ask to unsubscribe, or write to us at sacredhillpublishing@gmail.com or through our contact form. We will remove you promptly. We may still write to you about an order or gift you have made.
Links to other websites
Our site may link to other websites. We are not responsible for their content or privacy practices, so please read their policies before sharing information with them.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time, for example when we turn on Google Analytics, Google Ads or online ordering. The effective date at the top shows when it last changed. If we make significant changes, we will post a notice on the site.
